One solution for your finance problems is to get a debt consolidation loan.  This type of loan will pay off all of your small, existing loans and allow you to make just one payment to one loan agency.  You should consider this type of solution very carefully, though, because it will mean adding one more debt to your pile, even if it will reduce your monthly expenses.  You should find the loan with the lowest interest rate and the shortest payoff time.  Depending on the amount of money you owe, you might want to consider getting a secured loan, which is one that requires collateral.  Although you would have to put up something of value (such as your home) to get the loan, it would come with a much lower interest rate than an unsecured loan.  A debt consolidation loan would allow you to start fresh, reduce your monthly expenditures, and completely pay off your small loans.

Home equity loans are frequently used to consolidate debt.  You can usually borrow enough money against your home to pay off all of your debts.  Of course, you put your home at risk if you are unable to make any of the payments on it so you should consider this type of solution very carefully.

Another alternative to a loan would be to consolidate all of your credit cards into one card.  You can transfer all of your balances to one, low-interest-rate card, which should significantly reduce your monthly payments.  Try to find a card that offers a 0% interest rate for a specific amount of time.  If you can do that, then you should try to pay the debt off entirely within the 0% interest period.

It might be possible to borrow against your retirement plan if you find yourself deeply in debt.  You should only do this in cases of extreme emergencies, however, because this involves taking money from the fund that is going to be your sole support once you retire from your job.  Some plans require that you pay the money back within a specified period of time and you should make certain you do this so that the money will be there when you most need it.

If none of the above solutions work for you, then you can always call your creditors and negotiate with them yourself.  Very often, they will have some type of “hardship” plan you can utilize until you get back on your feet, which will involve lowering your payments temporarily, stopping late fees, and even reducing interest.  Most creditors will work with you as long as you have a good payment history and they know that you intend to pay them as soon as you can.
