Tackle your Credit Cards with a Debt Management Loan or Program

Do you have several credit cards that are charging you high interest rates?  Are your monthly payments to the creditors using up all of your available cash but aren’t reducing the balance you owe?  Do you rack up late fees and over-the limit fees on your cards, causing an overall increase in your balance?  If so, then you would probably benefit by consulting with a good debt management program.  Debt management is an excellent tool for you to use in order to get rid of that credit card debt once and for all.

Before deciding which debt management program to use, compare several of them side-by-side to see which one offers the best program.  If you are looking for an actual loan, you will want to compare interest rates, fees, APR’s, and loan repayment timeframes.  If you are looking for debt management programs, you will want to check out fees, success rates, and customer reviews.

Debt consolidation loans will provide you with a lump sum you can use to pay off all of your small bills and make only one monthly payment to the loan company.  You will want to get the lowest interest rate and, if possible, the shortest repayment time frame.  Whether you get a secured or unsecured loan depends upon your willingness and ability to provide collateral.  Secured loans will guarantee you a lower interest rate but will also put you in danger of losing your collateral should you default on the loan.  Unsecured loans will carry higher interest rates but will not require collateral.  Both types of loans are great tools for getting your debt under control.

Debt management programs will work with your creditors to get your interest rates lowered and service/late/over-the-limit fees dropped.  They will negotiate with your creditors to come up with a workable monthly plan for you.  These programs are great for people wanting to get their debt paid off fast but don’t work as well for people who need their monthly payments lowered significantly.  Debt management programs can be very useful to many people as long as they do the research needed to find a good, reputable agency.

No matter which debt management tool you use, be sure to abide by the contract signed by you and the agency.  Make all of your loan payments on time so that you won’t fall back into the same trap that caused you to have to get the loan in the first place.  If you sign a contract with a debt management program, be sure to make all of your payments to them on time as well.  They have to use that money you send them to pay all of your creditors and if you default on the agreement, then the creditors may decide to kick you out of the agreed upon program.  This can result in your interest rates being raised back up and the fees added back to your balances.

The most important thing here is to sit down and look closely at your financial situation before agreeing to any type of debt management method.  Make a list of your creditors, how much you owe them, what interest rates you are paying, and what your monthly payments are.  Add all of your other monthly expenses to this list so that you can determine exactly what you are spending each month.  Then, list all of your sources of income to see how much money you have coming in.  All of this will determine what type of help you really need.  If you are easily able to make the monthly payments but want to get the debt paid off fast, then a debt management program will help you the most.  If you have very little to no money left after your monthly expenses are paid, then you probably need to find a debt consolidation loan.
